Extraordinary
Athlete top tips
We asked these Team GB athletes and Hull student what tips they have to help all of us do our best and achieve our potential.
Luke Greenbank
Team GB athlete, Swimming
I think goal setting is important for anyone trying to become extraordinary. I like to have both long-term and short-term goals to use as motivation as well as to look back on to see how far I’ve come. Short-term goals can be especially useful as they are easily achievable and will act as stepping stones to help you achieve your long-term goal.
Bianca Walkden
Team GB athlete, Taekwondo
Never put too much pressure on yourself. Always aim high and set the bar high but don’t worry if you fail sometimes. You learn the most when you fail. The important thing is how you come back from it and what you have learnt from it, to move forward.
Amelie Morgan
Team GB athlete, Gymnastics
Be resilient. If you try one thing and it doesn’t work out, try something different. Everyone has their own path to finding their extraordinary at their own pace so stay patient. One day you will find that thing that inspires you and that makes you extraordinary.
Dane Mellows
History student, University of Hull
We all have amazing talents and it’s our job to tap into our extraordinary element. To do this you have to be willing to do things your way and not let the opinions of others slow you down. At the end of the day, if you’re focusing on becoming the best version of yourself then the opinion that matters most is your own. Do not be afraid to stand out.
