Collection and use of personal information

We collect the following information from visitors to our website:

• information as to whether you have chosen to receive future communications from Get Set to Find Your Extraordinary; and

Such information will enable us to communicate with you on any matter relating to Get Set and the University of Hull, the provision by us of relevant information, goods and/or services in which we think you may be interested unless you have chosen not to receive such material.

• to perform the services that you have requested, which may involve contacting you by post or by email and sending you resources;
• to make parts of the website easier to use by not making you enter your personal information more than once;

• for prize fulfilment purposes.

If you have consented when submitting your personal data (e.g. by ticking or not ticking a consent box) we may also use your personal information, as stated above, to market to you exclusive prizes and opportunities and for such other requirements as you may have indicated or consented to.

In addition, and irrespective of whether you have consented to receive marketing communications from us, we may contact you with general information about the Get Set to Find Your Extraordinary programme including for administrative purposes. We are entitled to do so by virtue of it having a legitimate interest in communicating with you for such purpose. All such communications will have an unsubscribe feature.

As mentioned above University of Hull does not sell or otherwise release your personal information to third parties to allow them to direct market their products and services to you.

In order to provide our products and services to you or to otherwise fulfil contractual arrangements that we have with you, we may need to appoint other organisations to carry out some of the data processing activities on our behalf. These may include, for example, delivery organisations and mailing houses. We engage Hark for the delivery of the Get Set programme, and these companies process and store your personal data on our behalf.

We may share your data with third parties (a) if we are under a legal or regulatory duty to do so, (b) if it is necessary to do so to enforce our terms of use, terms and conditions of sale or other contractual rights, (c) to lawfully assist the police or security services with the prevention and detection of crime or terrorist activity, (d) where such disclosure is necessary to protect the safety or security of any persons, and/or (e) otherwise as permitted under applicable law.

Information may be transferred to third parties and internationally (including to countries without data protection laws), some of whom may not have laws that protect privacy rights as extensively as in the United Kingdom. If we do transfer your personal information to other territories, we will take proper steps to ensure that your information is protected in accordance with this privacy policy for the foregoing purposes.

In all instances where we disclose your information to third parties, we will ensure that your information is appropriately protected.

 

Can I request a copy of my personal information?

You can request a copy of information held about you at any time by contacting the University of Hull’s Information Compliance Unit on dataprotection@hull.ac.uk Though we do not charge a fee for one-off requests, we do reserve the right to charge a fee of £10 per request for repeated requests in order to cover our administrative expenses. Subject to verifying your identity, we will respond to any such requests with the information requested within 30 days.

 

Cookies

The Site does use cookies. A cookie is a small file containing an identity code. We are required to ensure that personal data processed by us is subject to appropriate security. We have security procedures in place to protect our paper based systems and computerised databases from loss and misuse, and only allow access to them when it is absolutely necessary to do so.

In the event that we become aware of a data breach which affects or is likely to affect your personal data, we will contact you where appropriate as soon as reasonably practicable by email with details of the breach and of the steps we will take/ have taken in order to remedy the breach.

 

Updating your information and opting out

If any of the information that you have provided to us changes, for example, if you change your e-mail address or name or if you wish to cancel your registration, please let us know the correct details by sending an e-mail to SCE@hull.ac.uk All email communications from Get Set will include an unsubscribe facility.

If you access other sites using the links provided, the operators of these sites may collect information from you which will be used by them in accordance with their privacy policy, which may differ from ours.
